Regardless of whether you run a food truck, a fast-casual restaurant or large-scale events: you need to trust that your food packaging is sustainable, safe to use and compliant.

PFAS has been an industry standard for bagasse and other fibre materials due to its ability to prevent oil and grease from leaking through food packaging. However, the mounting evidence against PFAS has led to regulations on its use and an uptick in national bans.

As of January 1st, 2024, we've put a full stop to the production of products with added PFAS. To keep communications clear and transparent, we've changed article numbers on affected products.

What is PFAS?

PFAS (Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are a large and complex group of +10,000 identified substances can repel water and grease as well as withstand high temperatures. Although PFAS is widely used in anything from raincoats to frying pans and firefighting foam; it’s been uncovered as a “forever chemical” that can contaminate soil and water.

PFAS is widely used for food packaging, and chances are you’ve both used and consumed food from them. Furthermore, PFAS has been an industry standard for bagasse products due to its ability to prevent oil and grease from leaking through food packaging.

PFAS regulations in 2024

The now-known effects on people, the environment and ecosystems have led to public concern and legal repercussions. This includes a PFAS ban in Denmark, proposed PFAS limits (PPWR) and a proposed restriction from the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) spearheaded by Sweden, Denmark, the Netherlands, Finland and Germany.

Coated, uncoated & wrapped:

Bagasse is a sustainable and rapidly renewable material with a low carbon footprint. While bagasse is a great material for food packaging – it needs grease and water-repellant agents to keep your tacos, burgers, pasta and saucier salads from leaking through.

Through extensive research and development, we’ve developed an alternative oil-based barrier solution to replace the PFAS additives previously used. The shift away from PFAS has resulted in new performance profiles and recommended uses for our bagasse products. As such, it’s important that you pair your food with the right products
